The Great-Lifta is a tool used for lifting open the heavy hinged grates that cover storm water pits. This saves the manual effort involved in lifting the grates without assistance and the difficulties often experienced of the grate “sticking” to the frame due to tarmac entry or stones blocking movement.

EASE OF USE 1. Secure the operating area around the grate with safety cones and be aware of vehicles at all times. 2. Lower the hook through the grate opposite the hinges. If the grate openings are narrow insert and twist the hook as shown in the diagram. 3. Ensure that the hook is firmly secured under the grate. If the hook is not secure it may dislodge under pressure. 4. Ensure that the foot is securely placed on the ground and on a firm, even surface that will not collapse or crumble. This will ensure stability under force. 5. Apply a downward force at the handle end of the bar, as shown in the diagram. To avoid risk of strain or injury, use the correct technique when applying force, keeping arms and back straight and bending at the knee. 6. When the grate has been lifted and the seal broken, an assistant should place a block of wood between the grate and the frame to prevent full closure and use the lifting tool to complete the full opening of the grate.
